Hopeful news in upstate NY, too. For a couple years our blooming fruit
trees were silent, except for bumble bees. This year they were humming
with honey bees again.
A few years ago at the height of the stories about honey bee colony
collapse our solitary bee populations and also wasp populations
collapsed. There were a couple years when we rarely saw even a single
bumblebee, or any of their relatives. Last year there were a few, this
year there are more, so I hope they are coming back. No vespids though.
This is definitely a place where there is no agriculture, so if the
collapse was from pesticides, it had to be yard use.
