Greetings Wonderful CSers,

  I find it strange that the FDA can not find data on silver as a safe
substance.
  Here is data from the MERCK MANUAL. This book is over 2900 pages and
lists all illnesses and protocol for treating them. When you are
examined by a doctor, he will usually leave the room for a few minutes
and then return. That is so the doctor may review the treatment being
prescribed for you in the MERCK MANUAL. All doctors use this book. Its
their medical bible. The doctors follow this book very carefully.

 In the section on poisoning we find the following;

    The poison           Symptoms                  Treatment
  Silver salts Stain on lips(white, brown, Gastric lavage with
   Silver nitrate then black); gastroenteritis, saline (0.9% sodium
                     shock, vertigo, convulsions.  chloride) solution;
                                                   control pain; control
                                                  convulsions with
                                                  diazepam.
  (Note:Silver chloride, bromide, iodide, & oxide salts are
        usually benign)

  In the section on Chelation Therapy of toxic metals we find;

 Edetate calcium disodium (CaNa2-EDTA)
  Toxic substances:
    Cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, manganese, nickel, radium
    selenium, tungsten, uranium, vandium, zinc.
  Dosage: dilute to 3% (or less) for IV use, give 25 to 35 mg/kg IV
          slowly (over 1 h) q 12 h for 5 to 7 days, interrupt for
          7 days then repeat.

 Dimercaprol (BAL)
  Toxic substances:
    Antimony, arsenic, bichromates, bismuth, chromates, chromium,
    copper, gold, mercuty, nickel, tungsten, zinc salts.
  Dosage: Use 10% BAL in oil, give 1M only 1st day, 3 to 4 mg/kg q 4 h
          2nd day, 2 mg/kg q 4 h
          3rd day 3 mg/kg q 6 h, then 3 mg/kg q 12 h every 10 days until
          recovery.

 Penicillamine
  Toxic substances:
    Bichromates, cadmium, chromates, chromium trioxide, cobalt, copper
    salts, lead, mercury, nickel, zinc salts.
  Dosage: 15 to 20 mg/kg orally bid

  Note: Iron and thallium salts have their own chelating agents.

  Now we find that silver is not listed as a toxic substance and
therefore has no treatment protocol. Its not listed anywhere.
  The MERCK MANUAL started in 1899, and is now in its 17th edition.
  ISBN-- 0911910-16-6 MERCK & Co. Inc, Rathway N.J.
 Every doctors office and ER has the book close at hand.

  Bless you  Bob Lee
