Dear Reece, One option that hasn't been mentioned yet is the clear PET or PETE bottles that bottled water comes in. They have the recycling code number of 1. They have less problems with leaching of plasticizers than other compounds. You might try soda or seltzer water bottles as well.
Soda pop comes in PET as well, but it's almost impossible to get the odor of the pop out of it, so obviously it's not totally impermeable and the less potential contaminants you have in the material the better. My experience is that after an initial rinse and being re-used a few times, it picks up a light coating of silver and pretty much stabilizes from then on out. It's another, very inexpensive option.
