Dear Reece,

One option that hasn't been mentioned yet is the clear PET or PETE
bottles that bottled water comes in. They have the recycling code number
of 1. They have less problems with leaching of plasticizers than other
compounds. You might try soda or seltzer water bottles as well.

Soda pop comes in PET as well, but it's almost impossible to get the
odor of the pop out of it, so obviously it's not totally impermeable and
the less potential contaminants you have in the material the better.

My experience is that after an initial rinse and being re-used a few
times, it picks up a light coating of silver and pretty much stabilizes
from then on out.

It's another, very inexpensive option.
