Hello everyone, I would like to offer my opinion on this issue. My background is IT, and I have developed many enterprise communication systems for various organizations. As much as I hate email, I would have to admit that it is still a vital part of any communication system, at least as an option.
Thus, whatever platform you choose, I would strongly recommend that email notifications remain an optional feature. The ideal system will provide multiple communication methods, in order to reach/satisfy the largest potential audience. Additionally, as some of you have mentioned, managing nefarious activities will become increasingly difficult, as special interest groups get ever more sophisticated in information warfare. Techniques such as astroturphing are very real, and must be guarded against. If any of you would like more information on such, there is a nice intro here: http://www.foodrenegade.com/vaccines-pr-and-the-news-cycle/?mc_cid=403eeb7de9&mc_eid=a4b380d5c6 Be sure to watch the short TED talk on that page. So yea, good luck with all that Mike ;-) Of course it is up to all of us to help maintain the integrity of the discussions.
