Hi Nina; For short time brewing no problem with the electrodes touching the bottom.
For long time brew that can be another story, As I have had sliver bridging across plastic spacers, znd forming a conductive path that screwed up my current raedings. You might get by with it many times but it will bite you when you are not aware of it. The conductive path might not even be very visible to conduct current so why tempt fate???
