Simplest CS machine can be made for under $5. Go to radio shack and purchase a 9 volt battery clip, a nine volt battery, and a package of alligator clips. Acquire some .999 silver wire and a gallon of distilled water.
Put the water in an 8 oz. glass. Take the silver wire and bend it so that it hangs over the sides with an inch or two in the water on opposite sides of the glass.
