Yes, silver chloride is toxic and can precipitate in the skin to cause argyria. However, the very small quantities created and consumed by those using salt as an accelerant for making CS have *not* caused any cases of argyria and are unlikely to be able to. Just do the figures... a few ppm of AgCl ... how many gallons of the product would you have to drink to amount to the several hundreds of milligrams of silver known to be required to cause a problem? And *that* assumes all the AgCl precipitates in the skin, when in fact it is eliminated at a modest rate by the body, and only when that mechanism is overwhelmed does precipitation occur. The best reason for not using salt in making CS is that the particles produced that way are known to be smaller and are presumed to be safer and more bioavailable. Note that I fully *agree* that it's best to use distilled water. I just don't want to overstate the argyria issue. Be well, Mike D.
