You might want to consider a 660-nanometer red-pink LED. It worked wonders
for me in reducing swelling in my mouth and I avoided having to have gum
surgery altogether. Although the circumstances were different from those of
your son -- he obviously needed the surgery -- the LED works very well in
reducing swelling.
