  Hi All
I'm after some advice please. I have been given a 6.8kV 0.6ma DC power
pack from an old photo copier. Can this be used to make CS?
If so, what should I do & what shouldn't I do.

James: The first thing you should do is throw out all your assumptions about
insulating properties of common items that you think WILL NOT conduct
electricity because, under the right conditions, they will. NEVER, NEVER
fiddle with the circuit just because you switched it off; UNPLUG IT FIRST!
And even then you could still get zapped if there is any remaining stored
energy in the power supply capacitors. So wait a few seconds. Also the
electrodes get plenty hot. Next make sure there are no wet or damp spots on
the table where your HVAC CS equipment is located. Dry thoroughly. Having
said all that, welcome to the club. I find it quite fascinating. Try
producing CS with as simple a setup as possible. Use 99.9% silver wire. I
like to use #22. Remember, because of the power supply's different operating
frequency, a multimeter readout will be inaccurate. BTW, the current rating
of your power supply seems a little low for good HVAC CS production (mine
has
30 ma.), but give it a try and tell us what happened. Roger

James: Whoops! I guess I didn't read your note carefully enough since I see
you were referring the a high voltage DIRECT CURRENT power supply. However, I
don't see why the same precautions and CS generating setup I mentioned in my
original response shouldn't apply. Roger
