Oh, okay I see where the confusion lies.
Yes, you are right that is essentially what I said, but the fact that
the silver is available at all is because has entered the blood stream
via the gut. To do that it needs to be ionic.

So to be clear... silver needs to be ionic and bound to transporter
proteins or certain other chelating compounds to pass through the lining
of the gut and enter the blood stream. I wasn't realy commenting on the
way silver dissables pathogenic cells, although I believe that it is
true that only silver ions can interact with other particles.

A poorly designed silver colloid may not present many ions as it passes
through the stomach and intestines and therefore is not effective
because it is not well absorbed. Such a colloid will undoubtably be much
more effective when the full dose is injected directly into the blood
stream. Silver metal in a liquid medium will always ionise to some
degree in an ongoing process (hence Silverlon works) but that is only of
some use when the silver can potentially contact the pathogens it is
there to fight, and is not taking the scenic route to the toilet.
Another reason that silver metal particles (non ionic) can be effective
is in the immune reasponse they can elicit, leukoscytosis, the
mobilisation of white blood cells and attendant temperature rise has
been found to occur in rabbits injected with not very large doses of
silver, and it was believed that it was this response which cured these
rabbits of life treatening septicemia.

In fact, once in the body it is unlikely that free discrete silver ions
can enter cells at all unless complexed with proteins or amino acids
(ions cannot penetrate the fatty cell membrane and need assistance or
special pores to be admitted). Silver ions dissable bacterium by by
bonding to proteins on their cell wall which alters the properties
(ability to process fuel) or weakens the wall enough that the cell
breaks open.

Hope this helps,
Ivan.
