How sure are the researchers about BSE?  What I mean is that if they
find "misfolded proteins," are they sure there isn't a pathogen
originally present that produces these proteins?  

Since many, once "genetic" or "chemical imbalance" caused, diseases
are now being found to be associated with pathogens, is it possible
there could be a pathogen causing BSE?
