Yeast is an opportunistic organism-it exists in abundance wherever and whenever its environment changes to allow it to proliferate. Cancer patients, AIDS patients, victims of antibiotic overuse, yeast likes hormones, so women taking birth control pills are susceptible, high carb diets, diets containing a lot of fermented foods.
