I've known very few kids that fit that description.  Only adults.

Yup.  I helped a little on one personality inventory of this type (and
worked somewhat more on the MMPI).

That's an assumption by some psychologists.  Yes, tests can be
invented that shows how people view themselves at the time of the
tests.  Astrology says people should have basic personalities based on
when and where they are born (or conceived, depending on which version
you follow).

Other psychologists (especially those trained in NLP and Ericksonian
hypnosis) say the extrovert/introvert/INTP/etc. isn't really true --
that anyone can be any of those things **depending on their current
world-view (or gestalt).**

The above is a good generalization, but none of this signifies
clinical depression.  There are specific guidelines for clinical
depression, and many of the sound like fibromyalgia or other
"physical" diseases.

IMO, the NLP model is closer to "the truth" for sensitive, melancholy
personalities -- and the virus idea is closer for clinical depression.
