 Yes, depending on their valence affinity of the dissolved ions and
 solubility of formed products. But I have never heard of a solution of
 silver nitrate precipitating metallic silver.

James: I wasn't referring to a change in the oxidation state of silver during 
precipitation. I was referring to factors which control the physical form of 
the precipitate. For example, a few months ago I inadvertently precipitated 
silver chloride by mistakenly adding spring water to a batch of HVAC CS. The 
result was colloidal silver chloride that needed several weeks to settle.
