Well, I guess it's an urban myth.  There isn't much aspartame history
on the WWW, but everything I can find says it was discovered while
looking for an ulcer remedy.

However, I did find two references about using aspartame as an ant
poison, and one that stated it was developed as an ant poison.  Looks
like I may have been repeating a falsehood.
