Damian, I am guessing that the bubbler is one of those air pumps with a rubber diaphragm that buzzes back and forth. And that the taint is one of the smell of rubber. If so then replacing the diaphragm with a silicon rubber will help. Ask your local tropical fish dealer. Or ask your mate to make one for you. Tony
