Dear List, Greetings from Bangladesh. I would be curious to know what anyone here may think of the possibility that CS could be effective against mosquito born illnesses like malaria and dengue fever, either as a prophylaxis or a cure. Or for that matter, how about CS as a cure for the water born illnesses: dysentery, cholera or typhoid. Does anyone know of any kind of evidence, or perhaps someone could hazard a guess.
Aside: In a recent visit to a hospital here I was dismayed to learn that in a normal year they 200 thousand cases of dysentery and 10 thousand cases of cholera (and I do mean 'thousand'). Fortuitously, even the poorest of the poor are sensitized to the symptoms of these, so the mortality rate is only about fifty per year. Or could it be that the popularity of CS is primarily a U.S. based phenomenon, where these kinds of illnesses are uncommon?
