Dear list, Two questions: Does taking antibiotics result in contraceptive pill becoming less effective?
Does taking CS make the pill less effective? A young adult who is on the pill and who has just come down with 'flu wants to know. Her mother has offered her CS for the 'flu symptoms, and the CS is said to be "a natural antibiotic". She seems to think that the pill is made ineffective by antibiotics, thus increasing the risk of unwanted pregnancy. She would like to take CS but doesn't want to become pregnant right now. :, giving up sex for a while doesn't seem to be an option.
