Nothing elaborate at all. In fact all of the details were gleaned from the
silver list a couple years ago when there was a long ongoing discussion.
My son came up with a neon sign transformer for me.
I took a large glass wide mouth cookie jar and turned a piece of 5/4 oak into a
tapered "cork" with my lathe.
Drilled a couple of holes for the silver wires.
One wire is submerged into the distilled water. It's about 14" long (the excess
curls up on the bottom).
The other wire is adjusted so that the tip is just above the water surface.
The neon transformer (limited to 30 ma) is clipped to the silver with clipleads.
When power is applied, a cone of water rises to the short wire for the length of
the run (at least 8 hours).
Uhh, you inquired privately, but I'm replying to the list. I'm sure this is of
general interest.
