FYI,
When Edison invented the telephone, he was actually attempting to construct a
device to talk to the "dead." Honest injun!!

  Subject: CS>Damian's Dubious Devices

This is really an off-list topic, but since Damian has been getting quite a
few positive responses to his "New forum for ideas" by having it repeatedly
aired at this site, a cautionary note, also at this site, seems warranted.

First let me say that I would be quite enthusiastic personally in sharing any
real advancements achieved in, eg, the "mind machine" area - deeper
meditation/relaxation levels etc sounds all good and positive. However it's
then quite another matter to start fooling around with notions of ""talking to
the dead" (dead, it seems, doesn't mean dead!) or "phoning up higher entities".
Using just a few dollars worth of electronics?! If you're into that kind of
thing, why not just visit a medium at some seance - they don't need any
electronic device. Better still, go the whole hog and join some witchcraft
covern - nothing like getting a flying start from experienced helpers!

The point is - do you really know who or what you're actually dealing with
when venturing into such a realm? Are crop circles, UFO's, hauntings,
possession, premonitions, levitation, and all the other
supernatural/paraphysical stuff a hodge-podge of unrelated phenomena? Or as any
atheist would contend, either hoax or mental delusion. Maybe, but I would
venture a more rational view is that much is real but stems from the workings
of one or more higher entities having mischievous intent - skilled at deceiving
the gullible or too curious. What in biblical parlance are referred to as
demons!

Hopefully, in the present context these fears are unfounded, and the proposed
"contact devices" will prove to be duds. But if not - please think twice about
who you may be phoning up for "good" advice. During my time as a fundamentalist
Christian, I came across a number of ex-dabblers in the occult who had ongoing
mental disturbances stemming from such. Any bible bookstore abounds with
material on that topic - and I would suggest not all of it is hype. There is no
promoting Christianity or any other religion here, by the way. Yes, religion is
supposed to be kept off-list, but then the very notion of being able to speak
to the dead automatically carries a religious connotation. This site is about
promoting health first and foremost, is it not? Then mental and emotional
health is the current, and hopefully brief, issue.

I'm disappointed Mike Devour kept silent while all this New Forum stuff was
being touted. As stated at the start, some of it sounds good, but as Damian
would say - take care. Indeed!
