Reid, You raise some very interesting points about activism: that people who are aware of injustices in one area of life may or may not be aware of what's going on in other areas, and in fact are often closed to possibilities beyond their sphere. For instance, for a long time I have actively published magazine articles and anthology and textbook chapters on feminism, psychology and sexuality. Since women are very damaged by allopathic medical care (more women than men seek medical help, for a number of reasons), I wrote an article specifically for women showing how many health problems that are somewhat unique or exclusively unique to women could be addressed more effectively by holistic rather than allopathic means. It is amazing how many people interested in women's issues are not open to holistic health. I tried giving away the article for free to even very progressive publications, and they didn't want it. (Anyone who would like to read this essay, "A Radical Feminist Guide to Holistic Health,"can click on to my website at http://www.heart-of-healing.com/HolisticHealth/radical-feminist-guide.html .) I am not saying that your idea of allying with other groups wouldn't work--after all, several years ago the National Writers Union affiliated with the Teamsters--but it's not always easy to mix modalities. The dominant paradigm runs so deep, people are still very much caught up in a dependence on authority (government), which operates psychologically as a mother/father substitute. This is why, I think, so many people involved in holistic health are also involved in government freedom issues (sovereignty, Libertarianism, that sort of thing). There's a clear relationship to minimizing government control in our lives if we want to be healthy. Of course, with the popular (corporate/government) media, holism and sovereignty are very UNpopular issues. So it's a vicious cycle, as people tend to feel comfortable only with what they know, and they know only what they are exposed to--the corporate agenda. I have not met many environmentalists or anti-nukers per se who would join the bandwagon, unless they themselves have been damaged by toxic chemicals and radiation. But how about some organizations that are dealing with the WTO? Once we get our website up, perhaps we can launch a campaign to publicize it. In any case, you bring up a very important issue that perhaps could be addressed on this list (how about it, Mike?): how to spread the truth and get people to see how brainwashed they've been. One of the first things we can do is THANK the people (publicly if possible) who are doing such a good job to do honest reporting. For instance, I wrote the staff writer of Deseretnews, Lois M. Collins, to thank her for her article on CS. Her email address is: [email protected] (There are many other articles about CS, on this one page, some written by other reporters. The page is at http://www.amsilver.com/news.htm .) I have found that progress happens a little bit at a time. For instance, I'm on a list dealing with animal health. A number of people from that list have joined the CS List (with LOTS of good energy and questions, I might add!) because I kept talking about CS relentlessly. First I spent some time giving background information. There was considerable curiosity, lots of questions and some outright skepticism and hostility. After a point, every time someone wrote a question about an infection in their dog or cat, I said, "Why don't you join the CS List and try it? I am unable to answer all your questions, but there are other people who can." And it worked! This strategy (if you want to call it that) is used in large businesses all the time: first, ADVERTISE heavily. People will become interested if they hear about it enough. Then, DELEGATE. I am not the Colloidal Silver expert (despite my name). Other people know lots more than I do, and delegating helps prevent burnout (as well as enriches one's learning environment). So, business has simply institutionalized this simple grassroots approach I've been using. Perhaps, then, considering the recent expansion of this list, we're not doing so badly? On a personal note, I feel fortunate that I have found and followed my passion: to help contribute to the betterment of the world through my writing. My Rife Handbook will soon be published, and with the media contacts I've been developing, I have every hope that holistic health will become more normalized. You might be interested to know that in one of the Appendices I give a summary of Colloidal Silver and encourage people to make their own. This is a rather long post, so I will close now. But before I do, I just want to say that I have met some amazing people on this list, and feel privileged to know you.
