Nina: Thanks for the information on Echinacea.
Ok, perhaps I was not clear in my point. My point is that the elimination of 75% of microbes in the body over a four hour period of time, with no immune suppression factors involved, in no way interferes with an immune system response. Considering long-term use of colloidal silver a concern by the factors discussed is like saying that breathing deeply is ultimately dangerous, because if you stop doing so you shall be more susceptible to illness. While it is true that one will not have all the added benefits of breathing deeply, it is equally true that one will be in no worse shape than had one not used deep breathing methods for health to begin with. That's what I meant when saying "think percentages". To illustrate, let's take a look at Silvadine. It takes about a month ( if I remember correctly ) of nearly continuous and direct exposure on the skin surface to have an systemic effect, where the balance of bacteria is effected to the point that secondary infections can occur as a direct result of using the silver. And then, this happens only with a percentage of people. Now, we are talking a significant amount of silver, directly in contact with tissues for a prolonged period of time, hour after hour day after day, in an insulated environment. If you took in enough silver to reproduce that effect within the body, the silver poisoning would kill you long before any immune system function has been effected due to the elimination of bacteria. The laboratory studies indicate that it can take a concentration of anywhere from 4 to 9 parts silver to one part bacteria in order to significantly begin to reduce the population count of bacterial colonies. I just have a real hard time envisioning such a cataclysmic effect on the body's metabolism and immune system to warrant any real concern about an under-developed immune system as the result of colloidal silver use, above and beyond the same results one would experience when stopping ANYTHING that is beneficial to the body. I think if this were even REMOTELY the case, we would see ALOT more side effects through colloidal silver use, like one experiences with antibiotics and drugs. I just don't see any revelant data that suggests that is a concern. I also think it takes a far greater concentration of colloidal silver to actually kill and eliminate an infection rather than the more mild effect of significantly hindering the bacteria's ability to repopulate. I think the immune system of the body does quite a bit of the work when CS is used internally ( as apposed to externally ). I think this is why there can be such a difference in effective dosage levels against similiar conditions in different people. -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
