Hi again, folks:

WRT the DW I was using, it was Arrowhead Distilled
Water (steam distilled). It turned pink and then
purple after I had diluted some of the stronger CS
solution with some more DW (after it had been sitting
in the cupboard for several days). Maybe I'll try
Wal-Mart's brand next time. I'm in Southern
California... I have read that different people on
this list had varying success with Wal-Mart's brand of
DW.

As to timing, the first batch I made I let "cook" for
about two hours (no starter). The temperature at all
times was room temperature. Our evenings are now down
into the 60-degree Fahrenheit range.

For the later batches, I used some CS as starter. A
couple of batches I let "cook" for an hour. The last
batch I left to "cook" for a couple of hours, even
though I had used starter.
