well, all that sweet stuff is ok for the fire ants, but don't neglect
the sharp retort, the penetrating analysis, the patient sigh of the
unjustly overburdened, and closely related exaggerated kindliness
extended to the congenitally defective, or in a contrary vein the
equally exaggerated appreciation of the other's "joke".  Even plain
irony is preferable to saccharin, and better for the blood. <g>

Why surely; but after that initial extension of 'credit' - so to speak -
respect is earned.  Robert Heinlein pointed out in one of his stories
that a sure way to spot an irretrievably sick society was to note the
thorough lack of common civility, courtesy,  between its members.
