Yes ppm = mg/L and no, you cannot increase the total silver concentration of a sample by magic. But in your sample you may find a change in the ratio between ionic and particulate silver, and if you are relying on an electronic means of measuring concentration (ISE, Conductivity) then your reading may change over time. There is also a question of the valence of the silver ion Ag+ or Ag++ in some circumstances, which will also alter a conductivity reading.
