We got some inexpensive sound-generating gadgets at Costco; they work very well. Mosquitoes here in Southern Japan are HORRIBLE and some carry the dangerous swine-linked encephalitis virus (kids get immunizations so the infection rate is low, fortunately.)
Bottom line, for twenty bucks or so, you can get a device that works pretty well in keeping mosquioes away. Seems to work best if worn on wrist.
