I am not sure, it may be the species of algae, not much data on it.  Our 
experience
with out cat's water bowl is that within 5 minutes of adding CS to her water 
the algea
disappears.  Never could figure out where it was going, or why.  Even if it 
killed it,
I would not expect it to disappear, but it would.
