I wasn't aware that silver was an algaecide. My advice would be to
switch to a copper based algaecide. The cheapest is copper sulphate, but
it is toxic and less effective in hard water where the copper
immediately precipitates out as copper carbonate. There are chelated
copper algaecides, like Cutrine, that are more stable and are suitable
for potable water supplies. Unfortunately, the chelated products tend to
be expensive.
