For the more adventurous types on this list I suggest that you check
out the Proxomitron program. It will filter allot of nefarious
elements from websites while allowing normal surfing without the
usual distractions. It is freeware and better than most of the
commercial filter programs on the net. There is a bit of a learning
curve, but nothing insurmountable. If I can use it then anyone with
a little grit can too. Good luck and enjoy.

For some more interesting links with information and download try:

Another resource for this type of material is dslreports.com

Try these links on the security forum there:

<http://www.dslreports.com> is a valuable resource for security and
"freeware/shareware minded individuals. Check it out.

Watch for broken links above and if cutting and pasting please cut
and paste only that part of the link between the "<" and the ">"

Subject: RE: CS>pop up ads

This happened to me too, this Sunday, but it was a collection of
porno
sites. Closing the pop ups only triggered a reload and I couldn't
get rid
of them and made the explorer browser unuseable. Why they thought
I'd vist
the sites instead of just being pissed about the invasion, I don't
know.
Anyhow, I installed the zone alarm firewall and haven't had any
trouble
since. And it lets me know when people are trying to get into my
computer.
[several times an hour]
Disabling Java gets rid of pop ups but also gets rid of the ability
to
view some websites.
