CS made with only distilled water and silver can be sprayed or dropped directly into the eyes with no harm...only a very slight stinging as with pure distilled water. An atomizer works quite well to mist the open eye without it seeing danger. Some storebought CS can be painful or cause harm to the eyes. If it doesn't say how it was made or exactly what is in it, be careful. Ken
