Can't you just put a few drops of regular old iodine from the medicine cabinet in a glass of water and drink it? (yes, the stuff with a skull and crossbones on it). I understand that's how they did it before it was put into table salt. Seems like it would load up your thyroid just fine in the event of a nuclear attack.
