Sharon...

Not having used Chuck's idea myself, but having a bit of knowledge about the
medical/surgical use of lasers in general (although not about the pen
lasers, I don't know how intense they can get).... in regular medical laser
use, the lasers will burn flammable materials pretty darn quickly, so things
the docs don't want burned are covered with wet towels. Eyes are shielded
with protective eyewear (I do not know what specs they must meet to be
considered so). Metal objects aren't used, particularly shiny metal objects
(there are 'laser-safe' instruments that have been sandblasted so they won't
deflect the beam if hit accidentally).

It might be a good idea to shave the area immediately surrounding the lipoma
you are planning to treat, for two reasons..one, if the laser pen doesn't
have any significant depth of penetration, the hair coat might absorb the
beam and little or nothing might hit the lipoma. Secondly, if the pen is
powerful enough, it could set the hair afire.... I don't really think it is
powerful enough to do that, but it would be a discomfiting thing to have
happen, in any case.

I have heard that the laser pointers are powerful enough that they can cause
eye damage, so I would caution to be sure it is not pointed in the direction
of any eyeball.

Good luck.
