Well, That is a pretty basic package. It really needs some sort of current limit to slow the reaction down, as Ken says. Perhaps you can disconnect one of the batteries? I would run no more than 15 mins with three batteries 30 with two and an hour with one. The latter will make the most stable, clearest CS, I should think.
