I am considering taking the water collected by my basement dehumidifier and running it through my ecowater still, then using the resulting distilled water to make CS.
My reasoning is that the water from the dehumidifier starts cleaner than my tap water (no added chlorine, fluoride, disolved metals, minerals, rust). Therefore, the resulting distilled water would be closer to pure than DW made from tap water. There would also be very little scale buildup on the still, compared with using tap water. Currently, I run about a dozen gallons of tap water through the still, clean the scale from the still, then run it all through a second time before using it to make CS. As I see it, the biggest contaminant from the dehumidifier would be airborne dust and mold collected with the condensed water. Please sound off with comments and warnings. Am I missing anything? Would boiling in the still be enough to destroy possible mold in the condensed dehumidifier water? Or would mold spores survive and pose a threat in the final CS made from this water?
