The sulphur compounds give garlic it's smell, and also create the myriad long chain compounds that may be so useful in the body. Raw garlic is well-known to cause upset stomachs in those who are not used to eating it. I found it quite helpful in reducing the headaches caused by mold, but had to stop eating it because it made me ill just like you. I started eating it again recently, and it has the same wonderful effect on the headaches as before. They are almost gone. This time I have no upset stomach or ill effects from eating raw garlic. I'm now eating about one whole crushed garlic per day, which I could never do before. It seems your body may get used to it naturally.
