The archives seem to be working alright for me this morning... Just click on the "Next" link near the top of the list of messages and it will take you to the previous page, which is presently July 23rd back to the 17th. The First link takes you to the most recent messages, the Last to the very first messages in the archive, which date back to April 1997. A neat trick is to view any recent message by a particular member, then click on the "view other messages by this author" link next to their name. It's particularly useful in finding stuff of your own, or for someone like Brooks Bradley whose posts are relatively rare but of high value. <grin> Also available in any one message is the "View This Thread" link, which is handy if you do a search and want to make sure you're seeing all the messages relevant to a particular thread. The Search engine works okay, but has a coupld of serious drawbacks... It searches only on complete words, so you have to look separately for 'allergy' and 'allergies' and 'allergic', for instance, instead of all of them at the same time based on the root, 'allerg'. It will not search on any 3 letter word, at all. So perfectly valid search terms like MSM, CS, ALS, MS, and countless other acronyms, plus short but uncommon words like 'ear,' 'eye,' or 'Bob' will give you the message: No matches were found for "ear"! (This means that either these word(s) couldn't be found in the archive, or some word(s) were too common for this archive, or some were too short (3 characters or less) to match!) Now, if you want to find a particular date it's a bit more awkward yet... Here's a link to the second page of messages, the ones just prior to July 23... http://escribe.com/health/thesilverlist/index.html?by=Date&n=2 All you need to do is change the "2" at the end of the link to something else to go directly to another page somewhere in the middle of the archive. The last page, the earliest by date, is #615 as of today. (It'll go up as more pages are added.) Change the number to 300 at the end of the page address in the address window on your browser and hit return and you'll go to a page from early 2001. Split the difference a few more times and you ought to get close to any date that you're looking for... Awkward, but I've used this a few times when I really needed something by date. Someday I may build an application to build and maintain a date index and display it at the web site. <sigh> Perhaps, Hanneke, you just happened to be trying to use the archive before Scott had it completely rebuilt after the system crash. Let me know if there's any more problem.
