Frank, The time may come when we saturate with metalic silver, but only after we're able to locate this, in very fine sizes. We will do this according to location and sustainability. In the meantime we use CS because it's relatively easy.
What happens is that after firing the filter it's saturated with concentrated CS, then allowed to dry. This leads to the kind of reaction that you described in your Saturday message, ending up with silver oxide which is the disinfectant, 'stuck' in the filter medium. The reason we need a stabilizer, whether silver citrate or whatever works, is because the concentrated CS will 'go off,' as I'm sure you know, in the presence of magnetic fields or light, precipitating as silver oxide. The stabilizer will prevent this, allowing the CS to be transported to other filter factories. Otherwise we need to saturate immediately after production, or store in a known stabile environment. Are you aware of other materials we could use as stabilizer? It is true that some filter companies mix metalic silver into their moist clay, then forming, drying and firing, but we can't get their without procuring the silver then doing a lot of experimentation. Also the production oc concentrated CS is sustainable where making the metalic silver powder may not be. After all we are not in the industrialized world, but rather a small corner of South Asia. And the process must be replicable in other such countries. Reid Frank Key said > It is not clear to me what you are trying to stabilize.
