Nenah: I don't know about baking soda, as I've never used it.
I only utilize Potassium Hydroxide in CS enough to balance the PH level; only a very small amount is needed to adjust the PH to 7.0, and according to the information I have, TEM analysis has demonstrated no adverse effects to the solution.
