It could be indicative of such, but I am not certain it would be rock hard proof. Bacteria have been known for quite some time to exchange dna, that is how immunity to antibiotics often develops. It could be nothing more than a silver miner getting the flu, and ending up with a silver immune version. However it is my understanding that this particular trait is disposed of quite quickly once the threat of silver is eliminated, so it is quite possible that even such a strain would quickly die out unless the general population had silver in their blood.
