additional time after aeration for the oxidation to take place.

This will work if the iron is in the non-soluble form, but if it is in the soluble form I doubt it will do much. To make it into the non-soluble form it is necessary to ariate it to provide oxygen, and also add lime or a base if it is acid. Once this is done the iron will form rust which can easily be filtered
out.
