Look at the Senator from Montana, he did it in a matter of years, by not being smart about what he was doing. For those who take care and are smart about it Argyria is not a risk. Just like Food Poisoning, if you are smart about your food you do not get Salmonella. But that does not mean it is a myth. Salmonella is every where, and you have to ingest a bunch to get sick, but it happens. The lethal dose of Silver Nitrate in mice is 50 mg/kg. In humans the lethal dose of Silver salts is 1 gram. So yes there are risks for those who do not educate themselves and exercise due caution in their set up.
