The spider bite located on my neck has gradually faded away. I don't
know what kind of spider it was but will list the remedies I used, FYI:

Day 1: a quarter-sized inflammation developed with slight itchiness;
coincidentally, our local newspaper ran a full-page article that day on
a child who nearly died from a recluse bite (was on dialysis in
intensive care for weeks due to kidney failure). Ran in and swabbed my
bite with a mixture of 50/50 CS/DMSO plus a little gentian violet.

Day 2: husband noticed the inflammation was a bit larger, otherwise no
change; swabbed again with above mentioned mixture which caused itching
to worsen. Remembered DMSO might be contraindicated for venom as it
might carry the venom further into the tissue (people report differing
experiences on this point). Worried I might have really goofed up, esp.
after viewing Wayne's pictures, I applied a raw onion poultice for
several hours.

Day 3: Bite no better, but certainly no worse. Applied clay/CS poultice
(that was changed once) during entire day.

Day 4: Inflammation about the same, but no larger than on Day 2. No
pain, no color changes, faint occasional itching. Decided to stop
treatments and see what happened.

Since then (this is Day 6) inflammation has faded gradually, is still
visible but obviously on its way out.

My sincere thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. It helped, more
than I can say, to know that I probably had time to try the less
invasive treatments first while assured that other methods were
available if needed. If the situation had gradually worsened, I
probably would have consulted Christine next for the essential oils,
with electrical treatment as the last resort.
