when on sale at harbor freight, small voltmeter that does milliamps. put in line with your system. i use either arrowhead distilled or kmart distilled. at startup, readings are usuall about .22 ma and 25.7 vdc . i run it till i read about 1.35 - 1.40 ma and around 28.2vdc. the batch has an adequate tyndall effect, no sludge and remains clear with no sludge. stirred by aquarium bubbler. all done in a glass gallon jug.
