The other day I poured a little perfectly clear colloidal silver into a glass of tap water that went through a solid carbon block filter.
The mixture turned a cloudy white. I assume this was silver chloride, or some other silver salt. The filter is supposed to get rid of most of the chlorine in the tap water, but not all the minerals. Anyway, I dumped it out. I was going to give it to my cat in her drinking bowl, but I will give her straight CS instead. The senator that got argyria is a good example. Chlorine in the water will create Silver Chloride, which can cause argyria since the presence of the chlorine will prevent the formation of the colloidal particles, which is one's best protection against argyria, and also instead of being limited by the solubility limits of the silver ions in distilled water, and continue to form to high levels. Silver nitrate can form if there is any nitrate in the water, which is most likely for most water systems. Check any MSDS for silver nitrate and you will find that silver nitrate is toxic. Now that said, if distilled water were not available, and I needed to take silver for something, I would make it with tap water, and it would work, but why take the bad without the good when you don't have to.
