A zapper is basically a circuit whose output goes from 0 volts to about
9 volts repetitively. ( A square wave generator operating at 3000 to
30,000 cycles per second.)  You hold one electrode (metal tube) that is
attached to the battery negative and another electrode attached to the
output of the circuit.  It puts a small pulsing Direct Curent through
your body.

You could get the same effect by holding a lead connected to one
terminal of a nine volt battery and tapping the other terminal with a
lead held in the other hand, if you  could tap fast enough.  But even
this is said to work in a pinch.  Just don't short out the battery leads
with the wire...

Hulda Clark people now sell zappers that are very fancy with
programmable frequencies, sweep frequencies, etc.
