That makes sense in the US, but not so much sense here in the UK, where
healthcare is free.
It's not so much about doctors making money, as the whole knowledge system
being controlled by multinational pharmaceutical companies. If it doesn't
make them money it doesn't get researched, and so doesn't get put into the
bag of approved treatments that doctors have to work with.
Modern medicine is essentially a flow chart, of differential diagnosis,
leading to a treatment protocol, monitoring treatment etc. There isn't much
room for thinking outside the box, though some doctors do manage it.
