Suggestion: Use Bromelain to prevent bruising and inflamation from sprains and injuries.
If you take the digestive enzyme bromelain on an empty stomach (take with water) it will act to suppress inflamation. (If you take it with food, it will help digest the food.) It works great for bruises, sprains and contusions, etc. This has been tested on boxers, with the ones taking bromelain healing in one-half to one-third the time. I have used it and it works great, should be great for firemen. I would take, say, 1 or 2 tablets of 500 GDU as soon as possible after the injury, take same at night before bed (assumes that the stomach will be somewhat empty) and same first thing the next morning, and wait a bit before eating breakfast. I might repeat for one or two more days. The only side effect I have heard of is itching of the skin after a few days of taking it if one is sensitive to it. This info was originally from Dr Whitaker in one of his newsletters.
