A hanna PWT meter for a bit over twice as much from www.silvergen or wishgranted will give you a better idea, but it's still an idea..not a direct measurement and may not use the same fudge factors suggested by Trem for all manners of making CS.
To see some of the my problems using meters and what's behind it all..
http://silverpuppy.com/ppm.html
Bottom line, meters are useful if not very accurate.
The only "good" way is an AA spectrophotometer [$10k and up] Ole bob uses a hatch colorometer unit with fair accuracy [$5k and up]
I've used some labs that weren't accurate too. [Not even as good as a bad meter]
The line under the bottom line...so long as you're within some range, [over 3? and under sludge] PPM just doesn't matter very much.
Eyeballs and taste buds are good enough to calibrate intuition.
If it looks and/or tastes strong, it is.
If it doesn't, use more.
Most people begin to taste CS at around 5 PPM. 20 PPM tastes distinctly like relative old rusty water pipes rocket fuel.
Where dosing is concerned, in a total absence of 'standards' that make any sense at all... intuition is all there is available.
Since underdosing has little effect and overdosing is virtually impossible, use some caution at first and go from there. [Mostly having to do with 'herxing' rather than CS itself.]
PS I went to a concert and breathed the air of over 5,000 people..and wound up with the first cold I've had in over 4 years. I discovered it a bit late and didn't start dosing CS in time, but 3 days of very minor symptoms and a pint of CS later, it's nearly gone.
It never got worse before getting better.

Hi Sue, I may have directed you to the wrong website. There is a lazer pen which actually shows through thickness of red beam what the ppm is respectively in your potion. I know this is a crude explaination but thought this might at least give you some direction to find this tool<<<<
