CS>demineralised water

I have been contacted by someone who is not able to get distilled water where 
she lives.  She can get demineralised water.  I'm afraid I do not know:  Is it 
alright to use demineralised water instead of distilled?  If not, are there 
suggestions?
    Would she have to  steam distill this water before using it?
