Re the your comment to do with the health of the Health Food Industry
and Government Controls re Herbal Medicines , Vitamins / Minerals . And
what you belive is a near return to the same status prior to that of the
Pan Pharmaceutical fiasco .
I disagree with you . Since the Pan issue came into existence .
Government here in Australia has systematically created a climate ,in
which all Herbal and Vitamins etc supplements have come under extreme
scrutiny and restriction and this has been accomplished via a
creating huge expense to the makers of Herbal supplements .
With government authorities demanding constant changes in labeling and
packaging. To the extent that companies processing and preparing these
alternative medicine and supplements. Can no longer justify the
expense in producing many herbal medicines for sale . When considering the
public demand, which is effectively , a small customer base when
balanced against the costing of producing these products . All due to
government meddling .
The company must obtain a licence for each product it manufactures . Each
licence is obtained at a minimum cost of $75,000 plus AU . Each time
the government department shows dislike of the product labeling and or its
content .
The company is required to comply at yet further great expense in
changing labels and or content and obtaining approval.
By then the goal post has often been moved by the powers that be , causing
more delays and expenditure ... and constant tweaking of the regulations.
To the extent that , other than the basic supermarket lines ( that have a
rapid turnover ) , few actual herbal medicines are obtainable here in
Australia , compared with the situation prior to the Pan fiasco .
Now one has to consult with a naturapath in order to obtain the herbal
medicines one may require . Naturally if this professional feels you
do not need the herbal medicine you seek . Then you simply will not obtain
it .
Unless the product is manufactured overseas and you are able to obtain it
on line . . Thereby effectively reducing your choices and with that your
freedom to care for your health according to your own wishes .
David go visit a health food store and carefully check out what they have
on their shelves, then go to the supermarket and do the same re their
natural medicine lines ... You will note there is little more on offer
at the local Health Food Store than you can purchase at your local Coles
or numerous Supermarkets in Australia .
Its actually a sad state of affairs , considering that we in Oz had so much
available that other countries would have envied , prior to the Pan
fiasco .. In my opinion , the Pan situation was made to order and fitted
the governments agenda to gain more control of the industry . Perfect
wasn't it ?
